Ultrapure water for practical
scientific training

membraPure supports modern laboratory training at the “Verein für berufliche Förderung und Ausbildung” (VBFA e. V.).

For many years, the *Verein für berufliche Förderung und Ausbildung* (VBFA e. V.) has been dedicated to the vocational training and qualification of young people in Saxony. Through its training centers and schools, it offers various educational pathways that foster entry into the workforce and support personal development.

A key focus is the training of aspiring environmental technologists. In the specializations of wastewater management, water supply, and circular economy and waste management, trainees acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for the responsible management of natural resources.

In order to further strengthen the practical training in these areas, the equipment in the training laboratory was expanded to include a modern ultra-pure water system together with membraPure.

Understanding water quality plays a central role, especially in scientific and environmental engineering professions. These professions are an important part of the critical infrastructure and take on responsible tasks along the water cycle. In teaching, the VBFA therefore combines theoretical basics with practical and experimental work.

In chemical and physical experiments, trainees learn to identify and quantify substances using wet chemical and instrumental analysis methods. Reliable water quality is an important prerequisite. Even small amounts of impurities can influence blank values, chemical reactions and measurement results and thereby impair the meaningfulness of an analysis.

Ultrapure water is used, among other things, for the production of solutions, reagents and standards, for diluting samples and for the final rinsing of laboratory vessels. With the new ultrapure water system, trainees now have the water quality they need directly at their disposal in the training laboratory.

This enables analytical workflows to be taught under realistic conditions. At the same time, it clearly demonstrates the impact that water quality can have on experiments and analytical results. Trainees also learn the proper handling of a technology that is standard in modern laboratories across environmental analysis, research, and industry.

The VBFA’s vocational preparation program also benefits from the new laboratory equipment. During the vocational preparation year, young people gain insight into various fields of work, allowing them to explore career options or complete their basic secondary school leaving certificate. In the fields of chemistry, physics, and biology, the focus is on experiments and practical exercises. By examining properties such as solubility, density, and electrical conductivity, participants discover how scientific insights are generated and understand their significance for everyday life, technology, and the environment.

Together with the VBFA, we successfully implemented a solution that meets both the technical requirements of the training facility and the prevailing economic constraints. In doing so, we are helping to create up-to-date learning conditions and provide young people with practical access to modern laboratory analysis.
